Transformation by Fire: A Healer’s Response to Disaster
Not everyone responds to catastrophic destruction and loss with focus, love and healing.
Yet, the fire within Manaar Azreik has fueled her lifelong devotion to helping others rise above adversity.
A harrowing escape on a mini-scooter during the devastating 2015 Valley Fire in Lake County compelled Manaar to offer her passion and many abilities to heal broken spirits and hearts. She co-founded and created “TRANSFORMATION BY FIRE” – a series of monthly day-long free community healing retreats in Lake County. Manaar and her certified colleagues provide mental, emotional and spiritual support, and bring people back to Wholeness from natural disasters. These retreats are structured and include: group sharing of experiences, setting goals and boundaries, emotional validation of loss and grief rituals, yoga and mindfulness, trauma release work, sound and movement therapy, drumming and community rebuilding. To date, TRANSFORMATION BY FIRE has held 21 community retreats.
Raised in an Arab Palestinian Christian family in Israel, Manaar embraces cultural understanding and resiliency. At age 7, she began martial arts training in Judo, the Gentle Way. The only girl in class, she excelled to win seven Israeli Judo Championships. Manaar taught in Israel’s Waldorf schools and later in the Bay Area. In 2009 she graduated from S.F.’s California Institute of Integral Studies in Sound, Voice and Music Healing. Manaar’s unique blend of ancient and modern sounds and performance in Arabic, Hebrew, English and universal chanting sparks deeper connections and healing to oneself and community.
For the past 2 years, TRANSFORMATION BY FIRE has thrived with Manaar’s vision and full commitment, including her personal savings. Her small cadre of healing practitioners and volunteers are seeking individual and major financial support to bring Transformation by Fire outreach in 2018 to include Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino. L.A. and Ventura counties. Recently, an on-line fundraising campaign was launched to raise $55,000 to keep the retreats free/donation-based for all participants. https://transformationbyfire.
In addition, Manaar is writing grant proposals and a fundraising event is scheduled in San Francisco on Saturday, March 31, 2018 (2:00 pm – 4:00 pm). This event will be held at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern CA (JCCCNC / The Center)!!!
Address: 1840 Sutter St, San Francisco, CA 94115
